Many online sportsbooks offer fantasy football leagues as an additional product outside of sport wagering. Fantasy football is a insanely popular and sportsbooks generally enjoy a huge increase in traffic during the fantasy football season. But just how profitable is it for sportsbooks?
Last week, we polled the question, “Does offering a fantasy football product convert sportsbook players?”
A little surprisingly, “NO” came in at an overwhelming clip at 85%, and lets just say “Yes” had to buy a few votes…
With that in mind, and considering the administration cost it may take to run some of these fantasy leagues, where’s the value at? Does offering the product help as a customer loyalty/retention tool? Or, is it time for sports books to throw it to the birds and leave the fantasy leagues to Yahoo and ESPN?
What do you think?
