On November 8 it was announced that Tom Cantone was named as the new president of sports and entertainment at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE). Cantone moves from his position as senior vice-president to take over the company’s new president.
Cantone has become quite a rock star in the industry. He is credited as the one who revolutionized the casino-entertainment industry and has helped to build MGE’s CT Mohegan Sun Casino into the most popular and profitable casino on the planet. They are also the No. 1 social media venue on earth.
During his tenure as vice-president, the casino won several national awards, more than any other casino business. He clearly proved that if anyone should be leading the company, Tom Cantone is the guy.
Cantone took over in his new position on November 7. At a news conference announcing his position, the new president stated, “My new title will position us as we grow the MGE Brand globally, especially into Asia and Europe. Exporting what we do so well in CT and our properties throughout the country will be our goal to bring that success to the world stage. I’m blessed with a very talented team and a world-class organization that has created a culture of leadership in our industry. That alone will ensure a bright future for generations to come.”
Mario Kontomerkos, the CEO at MGE was excited about Cantone moving into the new position. “Tom is the epitome of leadership and has played an incalculable role in shaping the rise of our brand into an industry powerhouse.”
While taking over as the new president, Cantone will continue to lead entertainment offerings at all of the properties in the U.S. He will also oversee the company’s international properties, including the new facility set to open in South Korea, Inspire Korea, due to open in June 2022.
Cantone was recently recognized in VenuesNow’s 2019 All-Stars list. In its inaugural issue, the publication recognized him as one of the top fifty executives in specific areas of the entertainment industry.
The president will remain in the corporate offices in Uncasville, Connecticut. There was not word as to who will replace him in his former position if anyone will at all.
MGE is one of the largest producers of live entertainment on the planet in the casino and resort industries. They are ranked in Billboard’s 2019 Arena Power List.
