With the online gambling community in the UK growing weary of pending tax increases, France is emerging as the biggest target for iGaming businesses hoping to break into mainland Europe. One company finally getting a piece of that croissant is Greek gaming giant Intralot, which was recently awarded a license to operate within French borders.
Intralot will introduce a new online sports betting service, with the hopes of gaining a foothold in the country. The company currently operates in more than 50 countries with games ranging from national lotteries, online casinos, horse racing and online poker.
Constantinos Antonopoulos, Intralot CEO and owner of possibly THE most stereotypically Greek name of all time, claims that the license is only the first step in the company’s growth in the French Market.
“With a population of 65 million and a strong tradition in the lottery and gaming industries, France will play a pivotal role for Intralot Interactive in the new era of regulated online gaming,” Antonopoulos told the press. “We are looking forward to bringing our pioneering services and products, as well as exciting entertainment experiences to the French market.”
