Bet-at-home to challenge Austria ruling; BCLC being sued; Houston Police shut down poker club

bet at home bclcBetClic Everest subsidiary bet-at-home are to appeal against a ruling by an Austrian court that is demanding they pay back a customer almost €1million. Nachrichten.at reports that the Higher Regional Court in Linz is ordering the site to pay a player €950,000 related to online roulette all because the firm doesn’t have a valid licence to operate in the country. Bet-at-home was offering the service in Austria using a Maltese licence and it flouted the monopoly enjoyed by Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries.

A Canadian citizen is suing the BC Lottery Corp (BCLC) after she claims an exclusion program didn’t work. Joy Ross filed the suit with the Supreme Court of Canada after she was able to enter casinos and fritter away some $331,000 despite being on exclusion lists. The suit accuses the BCLC and casino operators of negligence and, according to her lawyer, it represents the first time a case of its type has gone before a court. Orangeville Raceway, who are the owners of Fraser Downs Casino, Racetrack) and, owners of the Cascades Casino, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment are accused along with the BCLC. In part of her suit Ross is asking that the BCLC do a better job enforcing the scheme or simply scrap it altogether.

Police in Houston have raided what is thought to be a poker room operating in a city suburb without permission. KHOU 11 report that police raided the Hideout Poker Room after investigating it for over a year. Five people were arrested for working at the venue, four of whom are being accused of engaging in organized crime. Local Pasadena Police Lieutenant James Holt added: “As a result of the search warrant we are going to seize multiple pieces of gambling equipment as well as other items inside the business.”
