The Story

Lawmakers in Massachusetts were so caught up in their jobs that they forgot to renew the licenses of two horse racetracks, prompting them to temporarily shut down their operations.

 

The two racetracks did not want to take any chances.

Massachusetts House Bill 4809 includes a provision authorizing the renewal of simulcast wagering and horseracing pari-mutuel betting for another 12 months. However, the state lawmakers completely forgot the bill, rendering betting on horseracing illegal in the state starting August 1.
