Rob Yong Works His Magic at the Sky Poker UK Poker 6-Max Championships; Caesars Entertainment to Provide Him With Some Competition

Rob Yong works his magic at the Sky Poker UK Poker Championships as he manages to get enough people through the doors to hit his £500,000 Main Event guarantee, and Caesars Entertainment move into his territory.

Take a bow Mr. Rob Yong.

After listening to the feedback from his players, Yong teamed up with Sky Poker to host the UK Poker 6-Max Championships, and his balls were placed just below the blade.

A £500,000 guaranteed Main Event. That was a tough ask, and as the second starting flight came to a close, Yong went to his Facebook page pleading for more players as his experience told him that his guarantee was not going to be met.

But the boys and girls didn’t let their headmaster down. Everest Poker Pro, and the man with a DTD poker room named after him, Mr. Sam Trickett, was the last entry that ensured the £500,000 guarantee was met, and Yong could put his balls back into his pants.

Yong has learned a lot from this experiment. He has learned that the UK’s finest love the fast pace of six-max action, that him and his team have the capability to turn it on when it matters, and perhaps there is a need to allow re-entry on the final starting flight of an event, even if it does go against the grain.

We will bring you news of the winner when the event reaches its climax.

Elior Sion wins the Sky Poker UK Poker Championship 6-Max High Roller

In side event news, cash game specialist Elior Sion, overcame a sterling final table to capture the £3,000 6-Max High Roller title.

60 of the UK’s finest contributed to a £162,000 prize pool, and after Ben ‘jenbizzle’ Jones bubbled in eighth, the final seven were a formidable bunch.

Sion disposing of McCorkell to take the title and £55,000 first prize.

Alea Nottingham to Provide DTD With Some Competition

The greatest card room in the UK is about to get a competitive test from Caesars Entertainment.

The American casino giant is the owner of Alea Casino in Nottingham, and their new look WSOP sponsored card room is due to open on the 22nd August, with the Venue Director says he has Victoria Coren Mitchell to thank for his over exuberant feeling about the opening.

“We’ve already seen an increase in the number of people asking about learning to play poker following the win by Victoria Coren Mitchell earlier in the year.” Mark Hands told Easier Lifestyle magazine. ”Her victory has massively broken down the barriers and perception of what poker is all about which was wrongly associated with seedy clubs and crooks!

“This couldn’t be further from the truth and we can’t wait to get the new room open so that more people can enjoy this great game in a safe and friendly atmosphere.”

The new venue will open with a £6,000 free roll tournament and a promise to help newcomers learn the likes of Hold’em, Omaha and Dealers Choice. The venue is also the location for the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill.

Interestingly, the Alea website has a page for online poker, but I’m not quite sure why, when the only way you can play on the advertised WSOP.com is if you are residing in Nevada or New Jersey and not Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham.
