Jason Somerville has inked a deal with DraftKings. The Team PokerStars Pro will promote the Daily Fantasy Sports kingpins to his legions of Run It Up fans on Twitch.
Do you want to know the secret to success?
It’s hard work.
I know it’s more complex than that. I know there are a variety of strategies that culminate in excellence. But the beating heart of every successful person has their aorta deeply rooted in hard work, and nobody keeps their nose closer to the grindstone than Jason Somerville.
The man responsible for sticking the poker pin into the map of Twitch as increased his notoriety, tenfold, after agreeing a deal to represent the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) monster DraftKings. Legal Sports Review (LSR) broke the story. The terms of the agreement are not for public consumption. We don’t care.
His new relationship with DraftKings will not affect his relationship with PokerStars. That makes sense. PokerStars owner Amaya Gaming recently acquired DFS operator Victiv. They will launch their new product through the PokerStars platform, as StarsDraft, in time for the start of the NFL season. Plunging their main Twitch star into the world of DFS, no matter whom he may represent, is a very smart idea.
Somerville was the first poker player to walk up to Twitch and flex his online poker muscles. When he joined PokerStars in late February he dived into a 70-day streaming schedule ending with over 7.6m unique views and 11,865 followers. DraftKings will be hoping that Somerville will find the magic necessary to help some of those fans fall in love with DFS.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) abruptly interrupted that 70-day streak. But the man is back, after recently agreeing a new two-year deal with Twitch. He is currently streaming as I type, and close to 10,000 people are tuning in to hear what he has to say, and watch how he plays.
For those of you who want to have a more intimate relationship with Somerville, you will glad to hear that he has organized the Run It Up Reno Live poker event Oct 20 – 25 at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino. The festival will orbit around a $565 Main Event and there will be an opportunity to meet the maestro in person.
