We understand if you’re still having an NFL hangover, that annual feeling of despair that happens in the days after the Super Bowl. No football for nine months? It’s an excruciatingly long wait that even we have trouble ignoring. It also means that there aren’t any bets to be made. No parlays. No teasers. And no proposition bets to speak of.
But all is not lost. Just because football season is over and done with it, that doesn’t mean the sports and betting seasons are hibernating too. On the contrary, if you look past the fact that the pigskin will be taking its hiatus, you’ll discover that there are a plethora of other sports leagues that are currently in full swing and conversely, ripe to jump in on the betting bandwagon.
For one, arguably the biggest sporting event of the year not named the World Cup is opening tomorrow. Yep. For all the foibles that we’ve been hearing from Sochi, the 2014 Winter Olympic Games is set to open its doors, giving us three weeks of unsolicited, top-class winter sports action, highlighted by the men’s ice hockey tournament. We get that bobsledding and figure skating may not as appealing a sport as football, but hey, watching those young lasses in their sequined dresses jumping and twirling around the air with skates on their feet should make for some interesting rooting action, even more so if you have money tied down on one of the participants.
And like we said, men’s hockey, everybody!
It’s the unquestioned glamor sport of the Winter Games and you’d be a fool not to at least look at some of the potential action, given the parity of teams competing in the tournament.
Once Sochi is done and the Olympic flame is extinguished, you can turn your attention towards the NBA and more importantly, college basketball and March freakin’ Madness! We don’t need to remind you what happens during March Madness, except to remind you that Warren Buffet is offering $1 billion to anybody who hits on a perfect March Madness bracket. Excited yet?
Oh, and we’re not just stopping there. Over in Europe, all the European football leagues are in full swing. The Premier League, the Spanish La Liga, the German Bundesliga, and the Italian Serie A are all poised to have some crazy finishes with all the top teams bunched together. If that isn’t enough to tickle your fancy, there’s also the Champions League and that’s a pretty big deal too, at least last time we checked.
As soon as April and May hit, we’re going to be treated to the following: the NBA and NHL Playoffs, the opening of Major League Baseball, and final stretch of those aforementioned European football leagues. That’s an abundance of betting options that’ll make your wallets spin.
And when those leagues conclude their seasons, it’ll already be June, which means that preparations for the World Cup will be in full swing before the tournament opens in July.
So if you’re feeling down now that the NFL season is over, there’s no need to worry. There may not be any football until September, but the betting season doesn’t stop. And that’s enough reason to celebrate, fellas.
