David Vamplew continues his impressive run during 2013 after picking up the coveted gold jersey, and $111,768 and four English pence, after his victory in FTOPS Event #20 $300+$20 No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) Re-Entry Tournament.

David Vamplew

Vamplew, who was playing under the pseudonym ‘sluggy27’, cut a three-way deal with ‘I Follow Rivers’ and ‘Mikleler’ to make sure the canny Scot picked up the lion share of the dosh before finishing the job off to also collect the jersey and avatar.

The former European Poker Tour (EPT) Champion once again finding the right blend of patience, skill and luck to navigate his way through a huge field. Event #20 had a $600,000 guarantee slapped onto the side of it by FTP and it pulled in a crowd of 2,329 entrants to surpass the guarantee by $98,700.

Vamplew started the year off in fine form when he finished fourth in the United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) in his hometown of Edinburgh; but it was the World Series of Poker (WSOP) where his year was truly defined.

The Scot picking up $343,450 for his runner up spot in Event #2 $5,000 NLHE – 8-Handed, and then adding another second for $413,157 in Event #53 $1,500 NLHE. The latter hosting another field in excess of 2,000 players.

So how does he do it?

“Luck and putting the hours in. All you can do is try to play better and better and put in the volume, it’s working out pretty good for me.” Said Vamplew after his win.

Vamplew’s FTOPS XXIV success pits him in good company. Philipp ‘philbort’ Gruissem managed to squeeze some laptop time in between capturing back-to-back Alpha8 titles to take Event #2 $1,000 NLHE 6-max for $93,940; Jon ‘apestyles’ Van Fleet picked up another FTOPS title with victory in Event #8 $100+9 NLHE Turbo multi-entry; and Mike ‘GoLeafsGoEh’ Leah made a little bit of history when he captured his fourth career jersey in Event #9 $215 Irish for $12,500.
