Genting Poker is throwing seven new UK tournaments in 2012, with £800k in guaranteed funds. The Genting Poker Series will consist of five £100k-guaranteed regional tourneys at Genting clubs, plus an online event and the splendiferous £200k finale at Mayfair’s Palm Beach Casino next December.
Meanwhile, Genting’s Resorts World Malaysia operation would face closure if the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) political coalition had its druthers. Speaking to the Malay Mail, PR info chief Tuan Ibrahim put the nation’s only casino on notice: “Genting is still on lease from the State government. We need to see how we perform during the next general election. But we will discuss with our component parties. This involves religious concerns. The discussion will also include all stakeholders.” So far, that’s Genting, the PR and God at the table. (Good luck with that.) The PR is a coalition of three opposition parties (religious and secular) that made significant gains in the 2008 general election, denying the ruling coalition — which has governed Malaysia since 1957 — a two-thirds majority.
Hope Genting’s fight against anti-casino forces is every bit as capable as the right foot of Lex ‘RaSZi’ Veldhuis. In case you missed it, Tuesday saw Veldhuis square off against fellow poker player Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier in their long-hyped kickboxing match. Four minutes into round two (of a scheduled three), Grospellier’s head viciously attacked Veldhuis’ right foot, nearly putting the Dutchman’s foot to sleep. Sensing weakness, Grospellier again hurled his noggin into Veldhuis’ foot. But the foot didn’t fail. For those of you with limited time on your hands, the money shot begins around the 9:30 mark and ends a minute later. And yes, that is a bull ring in Spain…
