Earlier this year bwin and PartyGaming announced a partnership that would create one of the biggest gaming groups on the planet. Proposed co-CEOs Norbert Teufelberger and Jim Ryan were delighted that the deal went through as they look to a possible future regulated US market. Continuing to think of a suitable name is not top of their “to do” list though.
Announced by bwin today was the appointment of a non-executive chairman to overlook the group as a whole. Simon Duffy, 60, a long-standing expert in media, entertainment and communication industries joins with an impressive resume.
Holding an MA from Oxford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Harkness Fellow, Duffy has worked in all manner of areas in business.
Before working as Executive Chairman at Tradus PLC, a leading online retailer in Central and Eastern Europe, Duffy worked at ntl:Telewest (now Virgin Media), Orange SA, World Online International, and EMI Group plc, amongst others, wearing a number of different hats in the process.
Commenting on the appointment the co-CEO’s said: “We are delighted that Simon, with his wealth of business experience from a career spanning several different industries and companies, will become Chairman when our transformational merger is complete. His achievements from working with consumer-facing businesses will be an invaluable resource for us as we seek to exploit the significant opportunities that we expect to flow from the continued expansion of the online gaming industry.”
Now just for that name…how about Pwin?
