Bayern apologise to Real in sponsor row

real home“It wouldn’t have happened under Franco,” cried the Madrid officials, after their Real had been banned from wearing the logo of gaming company bwin on their jerseys. Of course, online gaming wasn’t around back in the day, but it’s far from the point.

Bayern have since apologised for the fiasco surrounding Franz Beckenbauer’s charity match, Real even being threatened with a €50,000 fine if they wore the logo on their shirts. The reason for the ban in the first place? State-owned monopolies are the only ones allowed to offer gaming in Germany, and the fair odds from foreign companies may attack their share.
