Sweden’s Public Administration Minister Ardalan Shekarabi has formed a commission that will determine the implementation of a “total or partial” ban on gambling advertising. Aside from determining the extent of the ban, the commission is also expected to implement conditions on gambling products that are deemed “dangerous” to customers. The announcement led new online gambling licensees to believe that the ban is skewed in favor of former gambling monopolies ATG and Svenska Spel. The two former state monopolies have already promoted their new online casino offerings via their land-based customer databases, an advantage the market’s new entrants never had.
