The Story

Macau’s Court of First Instance has rejected an appeal by Charlie Choi Kei Ian, who’d been sentenced to six months in prison for operating ‘Wonderful Website,’ a website that revealed the names of alleged gambling debtors.

Choi had no choice but to accept the court’s decision.

The court did not give weight to Choi’s assertion that while he was chairman of Wonderful World Group Ltd, neither he nor the company of that name had any connection with the debtor website. During trial, two witnesses claimed otherwise and Choi appeared to have contradicted his own testimonies. The website displayed names, photos and other personal information of the gamblers, including the amounts they owed to the junket operators.
