The Story

Labor representatives in Macau are urging its six casino operators to participate in a provident fund aimed to protect workers and give them better options for their pensions.

The new pension plan seeks to provide a uniform pension scheme
for casino workers.

According to the fund’s guidelines, employers are expected to contribute 5% of the employee’s basic monthly salary to the provident fund. The proponents of the scheme said that employees who are subjected to reasonable dismissal can get reparation from their employer’s contribution to the fund instead of not getting anything. The downside of the fund, however, is that employees can only withdraw once they turn 65-years-old.
