The Story

The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has released its latest report which revealed that virtual betting proved to be more profitable than wagering on some real sports events.

For the first time, UKGC included figures from virtual betting.

The report, which covered the period from October 2016 to September 2017, showed that virtual betting revenue totaled £170m. The said revenue was £40m more than what real tennis brought in and represented roughly 8.5% of overall online betting revenue.

The UKGC did not break down the reported figure into individual sports, but football, basketball and racing are some of the in-demand events in the virtual realm. Virtual betting is slowly becoming popular across the world, as seen in Italy and some Asian markets.
