The Story

The clock is ticking for 34 casino operators as they brace themselves for the strike of roughly 50,000 employees who demand that they be given a new five-year contract with annual raises of 4%.

Casinos are starting to count the potential cost of the labor strike.

Union analysts are projecting that casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and in the downtown district could face cuts in the nine-figure range in the first month alone. MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, which together operate 18 of the affected casinos, could face losses of $206m and $113m, respectively.

Should the strike push through on Friday, Vegas properties run by non-union operators like Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts are expected to enjoy a mild boost in their revenue.
