The Story

888 Holdings is considering leaving Germany for good after regulatory changes caused its 2017 profits to drop.

888 could be the latest gambling operator to make a German exit.

The British gambling operator reported that its pre-tax profit took a nosedive from 2016's US$59.2m to US$18.8m in 2017 due to charges from a German VAT bill, which cost the company a whopping $45.3m. 888 Holdings lamented that a court ruling prohibited online gambling in parts of Germany, closing down one of its subsidiary in Baden Württemberg. Also, payment processors are already refusing to provide services for gambling companies.
