Dover Downs casino recorded higher revenue numbers than Delaware Park for the first time since the powers to be started recording stats in Nov 2013, but the statewide news was not as positive as revenue figures tumbled for a third straight month.
Dover Downs Casino is the king of the Delaware iGaming market, for one month at least.
For the first time since the state started recording online gambling revenue digits in Nov 2013, Dover Downs has performed better than Delaware Park, and they have poker to thank for their marked improvement.
Dover Downs earned $109,005.73 in revenue with $19,466.82 coming from online poker. It was the fourth highest poker haul of all time and highest since Feb 2014.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Dover Downs held their sixth annual Delaware Poker Championship Sep 2-4 with poker tournaments operating from Aug 31 through Sep 5. Punters must have partook in a spot of online gambling in between shots at the $100,000 guaranteed event.
The tournament attracted 243 players, creating a $121,000 prizepool, and Lawrence Larabee Jr took the title and $18,022 first prize after a three way chop involving Alexander Hough and Anthony Hayward. It was Larabee’s third deep run in this event finishing 10th in 2014 and fourth in 2015.
Dover Down’s excellent results were not enough to stop a statewide revenue slide that now continues for a third month after June’s peak of $304,874 – a result that marked a sixth consecutive monthly rise, and fourth record month. However, Septembers haul of $229,185.03 was a 47% increase year-on-year.
