Steve Wynn has never been one to mince his words, and apparently one comment about President Obama was more than enough for Steve’O to engage in a shouting match with self-confessed Obama BFF, George Clooney.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Wynn and Clooney were having dinner together with friends at Botero restaurant inside Wynn’s Encore hotel when one too many drinks loosened the attendees’ tongues. In an e-mail sent by Clooney’s publicist to LVRJ, the A-list actor recounted the events that led to the shouting match, saying Wynn went on an endless rant that included calling Obama an “asshole.”
Clooney defended Obama, calling him a “longtime friend.” Wynn responded by telling Clooney that “your friend is an asshole,” prompting George to retort that Steve was the asshole.
“And I walked out,” Clooney added. “There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us. Those are all the facts. It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.”
Not surprisingly, Wynn had a different recollection of the incident, telling the newspaper that Clooney was the first to get riled up after a Creative Artists Agency executive made a joke about former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev. “[Clooney] stood up and threw a hissy fit” at the CAA guy, Wynn told LVRJ. Clooney then went on a long soliloquy about ObamaCare and that’s when Wynn spoke out against the president. Fireworks ensued and Clooney bolted before things escalated further.
As far as a reconciliation between the two are concerned, it’s a safe bet that both will probably talk this one out down the road. Or maybe not.
Wynn doesn’t seem to care about burying the hatchet with Clooney, telling the newspaper, “Everybody who’s in my business — the casino business — knows to take actors with a grain of salt.”
Apparently, that whole business about shaking (Frank) Sinatra’s hand was nothing but hokey.
