Las Vegas Sands’ HackGate has finally been resolved – and not a moment too soon.
A week after LVS websites were taken offline after apparently hacked by individuals opposed to Sands chairman Sheldon Adelson’s stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the websites are now up and running. It really was a week from hell for IT employees of Las Vegas Sands, a lot of whom had to pull in extra hours just to get a handful of LVS websites cleaned out of the extremely political and potentially reputation-damning images that were displayed for all the world to see.
All in all, the hacking affected Sands’ corporate website, as well as its casino sites in a handful of locations all over the world, including China, Singapore, Bethlehem, Pa., and the Venetian and Palazzo hotel and resorts in Las Vegas.
If you were able to check out the hacked websites before LVS pulled them out, you would have noticed that instead of the usual bells and whistles that came with a resort site (booking info, things to do, etc.), the sites contained a message from a group calling itself the ‘Anti WMD team’ denouncing comments made by Adelson last year suggesting that America should flex its political and military might by dropping a nuclear bomb on the Iranian dessert. Not too subtle, this Adelson.
Fortunately for LVS, the hacked sites have since been expunged of the WMD’s vandalism and can now be viewed by those looking to throw more money at Adelson’s feet, as if earning a net income of $2.31 billion last wasn’t enough for Sheldy.
