A lucky punter turned 50 pence into a five-figure sum after winning a 12-fold accumulator this weekend. Twitter user @visionofscholes, who later removed his account, won the money on Betfred’s online service after correctly guessing the results over the entire course of the weekend. The odds, which ended up netting him £63,161.17, were so long as it included a huge eight draws and the events were followed by the assembled masses on Twitter as he fretted over a number of close games that were decided by late goals.
Rumors are already spreading in cyber space that the person who won the amount could be a 16-year-old and if that’s the case he won’t be able to collect the final amount from his account on the Betfred website. Obviously that would save Betfred some cash, although this another case where Betfred is getting publicity for free and that in itself is not something to be shirked at.
Betfred might not be the kings of the publicity stunt but they did pay out early on the Manchester United title ‘win’ last year as they lost a six figure sum after Manchester City ended up snatching the title on the final day of the season. In that sense you could say that even if @visionofscholes did turn out to be underage, it has already done Betfred the world of good.
As for the Twitter user, he amassed a following of some 2,000 people before closing the account and such is life on the social network in this day and age he probably received quite the fill of abuse. I mean, there’s nothing quite like abusing someone who’s a lot luckier than yourself, is there?
