Some of the world’s best poker pros are ready to take Manila by storm when the Asian Poker Tour officially opens the Manila Millions on Friday, April 20.
The super high-roller event already has 25 registered players, each forking over HKD $1 million to be part of the contending field.
Surely, the healthy turn out has brought smiles to the faces of the APT, none more so than CEO Jeff Mann, who tweeted last Monday, April 16, his delight over the expected turnout. In his tweet, Mann wrote: “Very happy! Our super high roller event with Resorts World ‘Manila Millions’ just hit 25 entries @ HK$1m buy-in per player.”
Speaking of the field, the registered players include some of the biggest heavyweights in the world of poker, led by no less than Phil Ivey, the man many consider as the Tiger Woods of Poker. In addition to Ivey, the field also includes top-flight pros like Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, 2011 APT Main Event runner-up Elton Tsang, Johnny Chan, Sam Trickett, Devan Tang, Anson Tsang, and APT Ambassador Joe Hachem.
Another name that’s circulating around the wire – he hasn’t confirmed yet, though – is 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel, who last week, voiced his interest in throwing his name into the mix. “Given the structure, I would assume it is a 1 day event? Can that be confirmed?”, Duhamel tweeted to the APT.
Other names that have been confirmed to play at the Manila Milions are AsianLogic Chairman Tom Hall, APT founder Chris Parker and the Poker King Club’s very own, Winfred Yu.The healthy number of entrants to the Manila Millions has already shot the prize pool up to HKD $25 million, which is around USD $3.2 million based on current exchange rates. We don’t know about your math, but that’s a lot of zeroes that’s going to be up for grabs. The Manila Millions kicks off at 3pm, Manila Time, this Friday, April 20. And while we’re not going to be sitting with the pros on the super high stakes table, we will nevertheless be there to cover all the action. And guess what, we’re not going by ourselves because we’ll have the always lovely Tatjana Pasalic by our side.
Her presence alone is reason enough to tune in, yes?
