Las Vegas Sands Corporation chairman Sheldon Adelson is expected to flash some more cash in the way of republican presidential election candidate Newt Gingrich – doing what he can to help him succeed, a friend of the casino mogul has said.
In a report by The Daily Beast, Fred Zeidman – a friend of Adelson and major player in the American Jewish community – said he wanted “to give Newt Gingrich all the support he could possibly give him as long as he was in the race.”
He added: “Sheldon has always loved Newt. He stuck with him through all of this. He stuck with him when he stumbled. Newt, I think, is very reflective of Sheldon’s mindset. Particularly with Israel.”
Adelson, who is listed in Forbes as the eighth-richest man in America with a net worth of $21.5 billion, controls the Venetian, the Sands, and the Palazzo along the Vegas Strip. He also owns three gambling resorts in Macao. He is a pro-Isreal supporter hence his backing of Gingrich’s views on foreign policy and is his most generous devotee.
Gingrich has received charity from Adelson for years in his political and nonprofit efforts, including seven-figure checks to the political think tank that returned Gingrich to the policy arena after he fell from his position as House speaker in the 1990s.
In the report by The Daily Beast, Adelson’s office refused to comment on anything remoted related to Gingrich, saying: “Mr. Adelson’s thoughts on politics and elections are his personal views and he prefers not discussing them publicly.”
