Monte Carlo will host the 6th Annual Global Poker Index European Poker Awards, and the deadline for the Global Poker League Draft Day inclusion system is fast approaching.
It’s nearly here.
It’s the only thing more exciting than Christmas.
The Global Poker League (GPL) Draft Day is weeks away. It’s the poker event of the year. Everyone is looking forward to it.
You can’t stand news of @GPI @GPL or @PlayHoldemX on my feed? Follow @CardPlayerMedia. You are sure they will NEVER cover anything about us.

Well, nearly everyone. The brainchild behind the whole thing has been going Twitter nuts over the past week. The last time I checked, the combined live tournament cashes on the Hendon Mob database, of all players who have indicated their desire to be included in the draft had exceeded $480 million. Talking about The Hendon Mob, I wonder if Barny Boatman will be involved?
I wonder which I’ll get more of this month. #GPL managers begging me to enter the draft, or Valentine’s cards. It’s a toss up frankly. — Barny Boatman (@barnyboatman) February 3, 2016
Maybe not.
Once the application process ends February 12 at noon (CET) time, PokerNews will bring you full details of all the Draft participants. We will bring you the dregs.
Fatima Moreira de Melo, Xuan Liu, and Felipe Ramos are three of the latest players to tweet their inclusion in the draft. Dreyfus even ran a poll to see who people thought would be the first pick. Here is an update on the vote at the time of writing:
Mustapha Kanit 3%
Fedor Holz – 49%
Jason Mercier 17%
Someone Else 31%
The name of Steve O’Dwyer is conspicuous by his absence. I hope I am reading the wrong page here. It would be a terrible blow not to have the GPI world number one not involved in the inaugural event.
With or without O’Dwyer, Dreyfus has one word to describe the GPL Draft.
Ok …. when I watch the list of draftable players of @GPL … as my buddy @elkypoker would say : its sick.

I just hope the delivery meets Bill Burr’s high standards.
An Expensive Cup of Tea
Members of the poker community looking forward to participating in the 16th Annual Global Poker Index (GPI) European Poker Awards (EPA) had better started filling that piggy bank.
The finer details are still a secret, but Dreyfus has warned us that the next iteration of the awards ceremony will be held as part of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Festival in Monte Carlo.
The date of the awards is Tuesday 3 May. The Monte Carlo Bay will host the event. It’s the third year in succession that the awards have aligned with the EPT. Deauville and Malta were the previous hosts.
The event will be streamed live on Twitch.
