Warning: WSOP Officials Urge Players to Pre-Register for ‘The Colossus’

World Series of Poker officials are urging poker players to pre-register for the $565 buy-in, $5 Million Guaranteed, Colossus event, as they anticipate a world record number of entrants.

World Series of Poker (WSOP) officials have urged members of the media to spread the news far and wide. If you don’t pre-register for the $565 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em (NLHE) event, known as The Colossus, you could end up in spending most of the day standing in a queue.

The event, which takes place on the opening weekend of the 2015 WSOP, will consist of two starting days, four starting flights, and eight different waves.

Let’s remedy that.

The first flight (A) will start at 10am on Friday 29 May 2015. Players will receive a 5,000-starting stack, and the lucky ones will participate in 10-levels, 40-minutes in length, with no time to nip to Martorano’s for Lobster Francaise. It’s anticipated that the action will come to a close at around 5.45pm. The second flight (B) will take place at 6pm on Friday 29 May 2015. And the same rules apply, as in the above paragraph. The action will end around 1.45 am. Flights C & D will follow an identical format on Saturday 30th May 2015.

Players can re-enter as many times as they want, but they can only enter once per flight. If they finish any particular flight with a stack size that doesn’t look too pretty, then they can choose to forfeit that stack and play in a different flight. The blind levels will increase to 60-minutes length, from Day 2 onwards, and players will be given a dinner break.

Speaking to PokerNews, Seth Palansky, believes that the event could attract in excess of 20,000 players. When it comes to breaking the world record for the largest live tournament field of all time, all bets are off. Palansky and the WSOP are urging players to pre-register for this event. If they don’t there could be another world record at risk: the world’s longest queue.

There are numerous ways one can pre-register. None of them particularly great for someone sat in Cardiff, South Wales, UK, typing this shit out. You will need a Total Rewards Card to pre-reg, but you can apply for this in advance, online, and pick it up at a later date.

• Players can pre-register via WSOP.com until May 12.

• Players can pre-register via the Rio Main Casino Cage until May 26.

• Players can pre-register at the WSOP cage at the Rio for a full 24hr period starting 27 May at 8am.

Players pre-registering online can do so via cashiers check and wire payments.

To simplify things even further, players can pre-register for all four flights, and if they don’t need to use all of the buy-ins the money will be returned in line with the policy outlined at WSOP.com.

Not only must players have a bit of savvy about them in terms of getting hold of their seat assignment, they also need to be prompt. Given the limited space in the Rio, if you are not at your seat after two levels of play, it will be voided and someone else will warm it for you.
