The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, are operating a study aimed at learning more about poker players attitudes towards the government regulation of online poker, and have reached out to the players for help in their endeavor.
Ever since that FBI warning sign greeted you as you logged on to your online poker account, it pretty much feels like the whole world is against you. Online grinders, who played online poker to pay the bills, had to leave the U.S. or find another job. Even those that were brave enough to flee now face the possibility of new regulation forcing them to live a life like the Littlest Hobo (Mexico and Canada).
On top of all that you have Statler and Waldorf (Harry Reid and Sheldon Adelson) doing everything in their power to ban online gambling at a federal level. Goodbye Delaware, goodbye Nevada, goodbye New Jersey, goodbye life. Did you know that since the beginning of the time, the winning party during American elections has been the one that has had the most money. Like I said…goodbye life.
It feels like a lost cause, particularly when you consider how fragmented the online poker industry is. Together we are quite a formidable army, but on our own we are getting swept aside by all and sundry.
So what can you do about it?
Bradley S. Wimmer, Professor of Economic, UNLV, Lee Business School, and Malissa Redona, MA Student, UNLV are conducting an online survey aimed at better understanding player’s attitudes towards government regulation of online poker in the United States. I added ‘in the United States’ because when I completed their survey (I live in the UK) it thanked me for my participation after answering just one question!
The study is called Online Poker: Consumers and Regulation. The creators promise that the study is not sponsored by the likes of Statler and Waldorf that it’s purely educational with the results culminating in a Master Thesis. It also suggests that the results could help the wider argument of opinion on online poker in the United States, and you know it needs all the help it can get.
If you are 21 years old or older, have played No-Limit Texas Hold’em online for money during your lifetime (I strongly suggest that PLO players and Mixed Game players ignore that requirement), then set aside 15-20mins and complete the questionnaire.
Shit doesn’t get done unless you do it. Take 100% responsibility for your livelihood. Don’t sit on your ass complaining, in the hope that the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) will have more firepower than Statler and Waldorf. Get involved and shape your own destiny.
