The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, criticized for the slowest of all slow plays with how it has handled giving out those casino licenses, is ironically itching to get online gambling set up in the state. How’s that for a refreshing approach to gambling?
Spearheading the push to fast track online gambling in Massachusetts is Gaming Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby, who has made it known that even if the commission is still in the middle of handing out those casino licenses, it won’t have any issue expediting the push to get online gambling rolling. “The time is now, it’s upon us,” the chairman told the Boston Herald.
And guess what, he’s not the only one who sees the benefits of online gambling in Massachusetts. Even State Sen. Stanley C. Rosenberg, the man who championed the state’s casino law in the first place, is echoing those sentiments, underscoring the influence of the Internet and how the state can use it to its advantage. Rosenberg was also quick to point out that establishing an online gambling legislation is going to take some time because, well, some serious studying needs to be done before they can understand how the whole system works.
But the point is being made emphatically clear: the state wants to get in on the online gambling fun, and discussions are already underway on how best to approach talks once everybody’s ready to talk about it.
Crosby said that any discussion on online gambling can’t happen until the commission awards all three casino license that are still up for grabs. The first two licenses are expected to be awarded this summer with the third one to follow at a later date, but if the commission is really itching to get legislation on online gambling started, it might want to expedite the awarding of those licenses.
We’ve all waited long enough, fellas.
