Live Tournament Update: Jaffee After WPT Title Number Two

Live tournament update sees Jared Jaffee making the final table of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Winter Poker Open, searching for title number two, and five British players make the final 16 of European Poker Tour (EPT) Deauville.

The final table of the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open has been set and the story that everyone is talking about is a New Yorker called Jared Jaffee.

Live Tournament Update: Jaffee After WPT Title Number TwoBack in November Jaffee took down the WPT Jacksonville bestbet Fall Poker Scramble for $252,749 – his first major title victory – and he is on track to make it title number two, as he starts the final table third in chips.

The chip leader is David Paredes who is recording his eighth WPT cash, and his third of this season, after finishing in 12th place at WPT Montreal and 28th at the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic just before Christmas.

There was one almighty chase for those six final table berths and several high profile names crashed against the rocks including former WPT Players of the Year Faraz Jaka (22nd) & Joe Serock (33rd), Chad Brown (26th), Byron Kaverman (21st) and a young lady who is making a name for herself on the WPT circuit, the South African Ronit Chamani (13th).

The Brits Storm Deauville

The field at European Poker Tour (EPT) Deauville may contain 40% of French players, but it’s the 10% of British players that are causing the biggest stir as we head into the penultimate day of action in Northern France.

Chun Ho Law (2nd), JP Kelly (4th), Alex Goulder (6th), Oliver Price (7th) and Eli Heath (8th) are in great positions to capture the €614,000 first place prize, as the Brits remind the rest of Europe why they are ranked as the second most successful poker country in the world.

16-players remain in contention for the title. I have just told you about five of them so who else is causing a stir in the pretty little town of Deauville?

The chip leader is the Grecian Sotirios Koutoupas who you may remember (probably not) finished as the runner-up to Ramzi Jelassi at EPT9 Prague for a bankroll building €510,000. Koutoupas will start Day 5 with over 2.6m in chips.

Two more players to keep an eagle eye on are the PokerStars Team Pro Eugene Katchalov and Dimitri Holdeew. Katchalov is eyeing up a potential Triple Crown and is one of the most experienced, and talented, players left in the field; Holdeew is fresh of the Eureka Main Event win in Prague just before Christmas, and his heat shouldn’t be under-estimated.
