Live tournament updates as Julian Track wins the EPT Prague Main Event, Ivan Soshnikov wins the EPT High Roller, Masato Yokosawa wins the inaugural WPT South Korea, and Marc McLaughlin leads the final 63-players at the bwin WPT Prague Main Event
One again it is Germany stamping their authority on the world of poker, as Julian Track defeats a stellar final table to take the first prize of €725,700 at the final table of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event in Prague.
An unwell Track overcame his illness to defeat the Grecian player George Sotiropoulos in heads-up action, after the pair had agreed an even split of €700,000 each with just €25,700 left to play for, and of course, all the bragging rights that come with being an EPT Champion; a flip ended the tournament with Track and his pocket tens shaking of Sotiropoulos and his queen-jack.
The former United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) champion, Max Silver, was looking to lock up his second major PokerStars live event, but would have to make do with 6th place, and €160,200, after a roller coaster flop, turn and river against his fellow countryman Stephen Chidwick.
The pair got it in with Silver’s AT playing off against the 77 of Chidwick; an ace on the flop handing Silver a life line, but a third seven on the river made sure it would be Chidwick, and not Silver, who would advance up the pay ladder.
The young German sensation Ole Schemion would exit in 5th place, and it would be a bad beat that would blunt the young wizards wand. Schemion getting it in good with TT v 77 of Track only for that seven to turn up again – this time on the turn – to send the highly rated German out of the door.
Stephen Chidwick made it to three handed play, and although he will look back at his Prague adventure with fondness (he also finished 3rd in the Eureka Poker Tour) he will still be disappointed to not walk away with the tag of ‘champion’ sewn into his jumper.
Chidwick getting it in against the Grecian AT v KQ but a couple of queens on the flop and river meant Chidwick would have to make do with a €378,000 score.
