In an attempt to boost his Facebook friends list, Victor Chandler Poker has become the latest firm to dip their wick in the social gaming industry pond with the announcement of a free play poker tournament. Today, the company announced that for the next month, the Facebook Free Play Poker League would be available to anyone on the social networking site. Every Monday and Wednesday from August 29 to September 28, the event will run with a €50 prize pool.
In order to enter the tournament, “Facebook’ers” have to “hit” the Like button on the Victor Chandler Poker Facebook Fan Page by 1700 CET on the day of the game. Anyone that has signed up will then be notified by a Facebook update of the password needed to play the game. Then you’ll be in the game and ready to take home some of the pie. It’s like an exclusive coin pusher machine down the local pier. Without the sweet scent of hot doughnuts though!
In addition to the prize pool that is already present, there’s also a leader-board for the top finishers in each event. At the end of the league, the top 40 finishers on the leader-board will win a share of €1,000 to spend as they please. The top 200 finishers will also receive entry into a €500 free-roll taking place on October 3rd.
Facebook has recently changed the rules related to gambling industry advertising on the site and Victor is one of the first to take advantage of the new rules. The new idea is a good one. It remains to be seen whether they can challenge the likes of Zynga but at least it gives users more choice.
