For anyone that gets really pissed at being invited to play Farmville every couple of minutes by their Facebook “friends” will have internally combusted at the news Google Plus were developing their own gaming platform. It sounds as though the gaming industry will be taking a different approach when it comes to Google’s social network. Well they’re basically not taking any of the leaves that the Face-book offers.
Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Engineering, allayed fears of it being another annoyance for social networkers, stating, “We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life. That means giving you control over when you see games, how you play them and with whom you share your experiences. Games in Google+ are there when you want them and gone when you don’t.”
So those that want to spend their lives annoying each other with Zynga’s CityVille updates and who achieved the highest word score on Scrabble will be able to. Down here on planet “we don’t give a fuck” everything will be nice and…well…relevant.
That’s according to Gundotra, who added, “Your stream will remain focused on conversations with the people you care about.”
Google announced it was going after another part of Zuckerberg’s market back when it took a stake in Zynga and the Plus games offering will be available very soon. As we stated before it means another platform for the online gaming industry to start developing social games. Zynga will obviously get a leg up as they have an agreement with Google. It doesn’t mean that the gaming industry won’t grow through Google+. The more annoying qualities being stifled will be a hindrance to many though as your games simply won’t reach as wide an audience.
