If anyone doubted the impact smart phones are having in North America, they need only look at the latest results to have been released. A Pew Internet Project report sent out earlier this week revealed that more Americans now own a smart phone than hold a bachelor’s degree. The figure of 35% topped both this and whether a second language other than English is also spoken in their homes.
The numbers that will be most interesting to those in the iGaming industry are the figures related to using your phone to access the Internet. It was pointed out that nine of 10 smart phone owners (87%) used their phones to access the Internet with 78% of them doing so on a daily basis. Even more interesting was that a third used their smart phone as a primary Internet connection. It’s beginning to show a shift in Internet habits that has been alluded to at a number of industry conferences and will continue to increase in the future.
Staying in the smart devices arena. On a day off from berating the manufacturers of Android-friendly handsets, Apple is reportedly ready to add a second partner to help fulfill the demand for the eagerly awaited iPad 3. According to Digitimes, Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology are being muted as possible contenders for the contract. At the moment only Foxconn has the license to produce the tablets and does so from its HQ in Chengdu, China. If the rumors are true, it should mean that the shortages seen in recent times wouldn’t be as severe for the iPad 3.
