The biggest soccer game ever?

clasico

clasicoTo say that the Spanish Primera Division is the most uncompetitive in the entire world could well be the understatement of the century. There may not be another league in the, save Scotland, where so much emphasis is put on two games each season, however, it does happen to be the biggest game in the world so we’ll forgive a couple of inches for that.

Real Madrid’s coach has already been pelted with stones and rocks upon arrival at the hotel they’ll be using ahead of tonight’s clash, unfortunately for those throwing, it was the window by which Alvaro Arbeloa and Raul Albiol were sitting that got shattered. It would have been rather amusing to see that smug look wiped off the face of Jose Mourinho’s face but alas maybe next time.

It is quite literally the biggest club game for a long while. A point separates the two, between them they’ve lost one game in the league so far this season, and the last three winners of the World Player of the Year belong to the two clubs, with the this year’s likely to come from the ranks of Barcelona’s Spanish contingent.

More interesting than the result will be everything else surrounding the clash. Last time Jose Mourinho stepped off the Nou Camp turf, he had masterminded Inter’s passage to the Champions League Final and celebrated on the Catalan’s pitch. Were he and Cristiano Ronaldo to repeat the feat tonight, it will be very interesting to see how feverish the celebrations get. As an observer, seeing Mourinho pissing off the entire stadium after a boring 1-0 win would be extremely entertaining. We shall have to see though.
