Aussie bookmaker wins fixture tax case against Racing NSW

You know that racing’s in a bad place when it resorts to charging bookmakers for the privilege of publishing its race meetings. The only astonishing thing is that they’ve been getting away with it for so long. Still, at least the Australian Federal Court has seen fit to reverse this nonsensical fixture “tax” after finding that Racing NSW had discriminated against the bookmakers. SportsBet will receive a $2m refund from the racing authority and, though Betfair had its own case thrown out on a technicality, the door has now been left open for the betting exchange to follow suit.
