Dirty Dutch downed as Spain reign in South Africa

Congratulations to Spain for rising above the UFC-style approach of the Netherlands to win the World Cup final. It hasn’t been a vintage tournament football-wise – and Holland epitomised the dark arts as predicted in these pages yesterday – but as one of the few teams to try to play the beautiful game as God intended this Spanish victory is a triumph of football. The news wasn’t quite so good for Bet365, Blue Square and Paddy Power, who offered a 0-0 cashback, while hundreds backed Mark Van Bommel to get booked.
