Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who is perceived to be an ally of Chinese President Xi Jinping, has decided not to accede to Beijing’s request to close down Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). After his recent trip to China, Duterte has decided to defend the POGO sector, saying the industry “is good for the country.” The Philippine President recognized the jobs that the sector has created: “I decide we need it,” he said at a press briefing. “Many will lose livelihood. It’s government-controlled.”
