Iowa officially kicked off legalized sports betting in eight land-based casinos and on mobile this week, making it the 11th state in the US to approve legalized wagering.

The Story
Iowa became the 11th US state and the first state in the Midwest to allow legalized sports betting. On the first day of legal wagering in the state, eight land-based casinos were eligible to offer wagering on their premises while four of those venues also offered wagering through mobile apps. The approval of legalized wagering was certainly smooth, with the betting legislation getting approved in late April and then signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds in mid-May. Aside from the expedited approval process, Iowa prides itself as a friendly environment for operators, imposing a 6.75% tax on betting revenue and only asking $45k for a license.
