A local court in Nairobi thumbed down the government’s move to restrict gambling advertising. Nairobi High Court Justice John Mativo ruled that the government’s proposal to restrict the promotion of gambling products was “adopted in a manner that was procedurally unfair” and “tainted with illegality.” The restrictions sought to be implemented by Kenya’s Betting Control and Licensing Board include no ads on television between 6am and 10pm, a total ban on ‘outdoor advertising,’ and a prohibition against celebrities from endorsing gambling products and services.
