New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal has accused the DOJ of illegally refusing the state’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The requests seek to uncover if a lobby group funded by casino magnate and Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson has influenced the DOJ’s new Wire Act opinion, which states that the Act applies to all forms of online gambling. Disclosure firms indicate that Sands paid Lincoln Policy Group $30k to lobby Congress in the first quarter of 2019. Grewal also wants to know whether lobbying group Steptoe and Johnson LLP, which received $80k from Sands, had discussions with DOJ officials.
