The Story

The Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association will be selling their shares in daily fantasy sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel as the possibility of legalized sports betting in the United States draws closer.

It was a purely business decision.

The leagues and DFS operators insisted that the sell-offs weren't acrimonious. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said that they need to have a fresh look at its relationship with FanDuel. On the other hand, MLB is looking at “potential changes” in its partnership with DraftKings.

The timing of the unloading of the stocks comes at a time when the leagues have been aggressively lobbying to have an active role in taking wagers on its games.
