The Story

Macau casino icon Stanley Ho has stepped down from his post as the chairman of SJM Holdings—the company he founded and the original casino concessionaire in the former Portuguese enclave.

But he won’t be out of the picture just yet.

SJM informed investors that the 96-year-old Ho will resign as chairman, executive director and a member of the executive committee at the end of the company’s annual general meeting in Hong Kong on June 12. However, he will subsequently be appointed chairman emeritus. Ho’s daughter, Daisy, will succeed him as the chairman of the company while current SJM CEO Ambrose So will be named vice-chair, executive director and CEO.

Ho has long relinquished his business duties and divested his stocks due to his failing health. In June 2017, he turned over control of his Shun Tak Holdings conglomerate to his daughter Pansy Ho.
