  To such great heights

The Story

Blockstream, a bitcoin infrastructure company, is attempting to put up a revolutionary project that will bring bitcoin to anywhere in the world.

So how will they do that exactly?

Blockstream announced that it plans to transmit bitcoin from space across the world using satellite technology through its project called "Blockstream Satellite."

Say what now?

The company wants to use leased satellites to broadcast real-time bitcoin transactions and blocks. This will allow everyone—even those who are disconnected from the internet—to participate in bitcoin.

Bitcoin users need to have some peripherals to gain access to the
Blockstream Satellite.

Bitcoin users will need a small satellite antenna and a USB receiver connected to a personal computer or a piece of dedicated computer hardware to receive the blocks from the satellites. The service is currently available to bitcoin users in Africa, Europe, South America and North America.

Takeaway

This ambitious project is bringing bitcoin to greater heights, literally. By making access to the cryptocurrency more convenient, it will accelerate the growth of the bitcoin community.
