The World Trade Organization has once again ruled against China’s distribution restrictions on Western media. Currently, China only allows 20 foreign films into the country every year and outlaws online music sales. In August the WTO ruled that these restrictions went against trade policy. The country appealed on the grounds that its “public morals” gave them the right to implement such restrictions. Interestingly, this was the same argument used by the US in 2005 to defend its internet gambling ban. Both times, the argument has failed. Read more…
