A quick round-up of the live tournament scene in the States including another female victory thanks to Vanessa Truong’s World Series of Poker Circuit success, and a couple of old timers bringing home the bacon.
What a sterling week it has been for poker players who are female. We already covered the £1m win by Maria Lampropulos in the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Dusk till Dawn, and now we bring you news of another big score, this time Stateside.
Vanessa Truong has taken down the $1,675 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Main Event at the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) in Harrah’s Cherokee. Truong defeated a field of 1,164 entrants to take down the $318,646 first prize, her one and only recorded cash in the Hendon Mob database.
Truong, a nail technician from Raleigh, North Carolina, eliminated six of the eight other members of the final table including the last four. The last player to hit the rail was Daniel Pearlman who also banked a lifetime best of $196,809, after losing a three and a half hour heads-up slog.
The $1.75m prize pool was a new record for the casino.

Shawn Busse Wins the 2017 Card Player Poker Tour Ocean’s 11 San Diego Classic
From a lady with a gold ring to a man with a gold bracelet and the former World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, Shawn Busse, came out on top of a 920 strong field to take home the top prize of $48,910 in the 2017 Card Player Poker Tour Ocean’s 11 San Diego Classic.
The Quantum Reload tournament carried a $250 per entry price tag for Day 1 action and $1,500 for those who wanted to begin life on Day 2. 59 players chose to pay the extra juice to start the event with 120,000 chips.
Busse has now won over $1.3m in live tournaments. His WSOP bracelet win came in 2010 when he came out on top of a 3,128 strong field in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event, beating Owen Crowe in heads-up action.

The Best of the Rest
Jose Montes has added a WPTDeepstacks title to his Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) and WSOPC titles after overcoming a field of 338 entrants in Maryland. Montes earned $95,032 after defeating a final table that included the WSOP bracelet winner Justin Liberto.
And there were two victories from players of the old school ilk.
Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi picked up a $41k purse for winning the April Big Stack event at the Seminole Hard Rock in Florida, and Kenna James won The Wynn Signature Weekend $250k GTD event for $54k.
Finally, Michael Phizicky walked away with the top prize of $185,000 at the 2017 Choctaw Poker Spring Series and got a little airtime courtesy of Poker Night in America (PNIA).
