Angelia Ong talks to Mike Kim and he shares what makes him decide on bringing WPT in the Philippines and what he thinks the future of poker in the country.
Mike Kim, Solaire’s chief poker promoter, is the man behind bringing World Poker Tour (WPT) in the Philippines.
What makes him decide to bring WPT in the country?
“I currently hold a poker room here in Solaire and i wanted to bring WPT to the Philippines because obviously it’s the brand that we needed. We needed to take poker to the next level. By bringing WPT, i thought that we can do that,” Kim said.
“Philippines is a wonderful place, people are friendly, they speak English next to USA. Philippines is the country that features everything in the world, beautiful casino and friendly staff,” Kimadded.
What sets WPT apart from other tournament held in the Philippines?
“So far we have Asian Poker Tour (APT) as well as APPT. APPT and pokerStars they represent one company and of course APT as well. WPT is a world-level experience. It has its own thing of bringing everybody in from all over the world. I feel that just the name ‘world’ just close everything away from Asian,” Kim added.
