When I first met Bryn Kenney I thought he was a cross between Flavor Flav and Ice T. I always thought if I were to ask him for an interview that he would bust a cap in my ass, but as time rolls by he turns out to be one of the most approachable poker players in the community.
So what has the bad boy rapper been up to?
“I have been grinding a lot. I did well in WCOOP and won the Super Tuesday the week after. I had a bad week in Paris but the poker grind is always ongoing, it’s tough and if you are doing decent life if good.”
There isn’t a tournament in the world that Kenney hasn’t shown up in. So where exactly does he live? Does he have a fixed abode or is it a case of wherever I lay my bling-bling baseball cap?
“Over the past four or five years I haven’t been in a place for more than a month and a half maximum. I always have packed bags and nowhere to leave them. I have monitors all over the world hoping they will be there when I get back to them.”
In true live grinding style Kenney has a huge schedule leading up to the New Year.
“I am heading down to play in the WPT South Africa event. I think it’s going to be a great tournament. It’s beautiful there and everyone I know loves it. I am staying at the Emperors Palace, but before the game starts Ana and I are going on a safari. It’s our birthday too, so it’s a nice present for us.
“Then I am coming back for the Masters Classic, then a GUKPT in London, then go home for Thanksgiving in New York for five days, go play WPT Montreal, WPT Vegas and maybe come back to play Prague.”
He seems a man that is so full of inspiration, but what ignites that spark in him?
“I don’t have much of a life outside of poker. All of my friends are poker players now. You pick up new friends during all of the trips, whilst your other friends just get on with their lives.
“My family inspires me and doing the right thing and being a good person. Doing the best I can with what I have been given is important to me.”
“I never had any serious relationships when playing poker because it’s an impossible thing to be leaving them all of the time. It’s easier to have a girlfriend travelling with you, but it can be tough also. When you are doing bad their is another person in the thick of it with you. Everything is either really good or really bad together.”
So what about the future? Where is home going to be, and are we going to see any baby bad boy rappers?
“I would say my favorite place to live would be Spain. Great weather, great food, great beaches, great people and a nice mentality
“Of course…that’s what life is all about. Maybe I could have fun dressing up five little guys instead of just one.”
Yeah Boooooooyyyyyyyyy!
