Day 5 of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event saw the field shrink from 378 to just 142 players. David Bach is your chip leader at 4.706m, but Plus Heinz isn’t too far minus at 4.699m. Kyle Johnson is also nipping at Bach’s heels with 4.654m, as is Phil Collins (4.109m). The only other four-million-man is Ben Lamb (4.032m) who continued his strong play from Day 4.
The same can’t be said for Day 4 chip leader Manoj Viswanathan, who busted out before the dinner break. Other notable Day 5 casualties included Daniel Negreanu, David Vamplew, Joe Tehan, Kevin Saul, Matt Stout, Freddy Deeb, Paul Volpe and Robert “AJ Soprano” Mcgreevy-Iler (who finished 275th).
On the plus side, notable survivors include Sebastian Ruthenberg (3.354m), WSOP-C National Champ Sam Barnhart (3.065m), 2011 bracelet winner Tyler Bonkowski (2.728m), Tony Hachem (2.067m), sole remaining 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong (1.998m) and Jean-Robert Bellande (1.23m). Then there’s 66-year-old Thomas Oldcroft, who earned his buy-in via a Bodog freeroll, and is still rolling with a 470k stack.
Hopes for our first female November Niner are still alive, as three of the six women who started Day 5 – Claudia Crawford, Amanda Musumeci and Erika Moutinho – are still in the hunt, with Crawford the leading lady in 38th place with a stack of 1.88m (and a t-shirt that says “Stop staring at my stack”). Action resumes Sunday at noon PST for another scheduled five levels of play.
