On the heels of a successful deal to enter the Pennsylvania sports gambling market, Canada’s theScore wants to see how well it can perform in New Jersey. It’s not a bad move, given the fact that the Garden State continues to give Nevada a run for its money, and theScore has now received approval from regulators to introduce its sports gambling app to “a select group of sports bettors” in New Jersey.
According to a company press release, a soft launch is going to be introduced within the next few days. If it goes well, theScore hopes to have its platform available across the state ahead of the start of the NFL regular season, which is less than three weeks away.
To get into the New Jersey market, theScore, a media company, tied the knot with Darby Development LLC, which operates Monmouth Park Racetrack, last December. The agreement saw the company become the official licensing partner for Monmouth, and also involved a similar deal with the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association.
The founder and CEO of theScore, John Levy, says in the press release, “This is a huge milestone and a result of the tireless hard work that has gone into getting our sportsbook ready for launch. We can’t wait to debut a best-in-class sports betting offering in New Jersey, delivering a truly unique and holistic sports media and wagering experience for fans.”
The company made a huge leap in U.S. expansion when it signed a deal with Penn National Gaming last month. That agreement gave theScore rights to provide online and mobile sports wagers, as well as other iGaming applications, in 11 of the states covered by Penn National, provided local gaming regulators give their approval. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement apparently didn’t have any problems approving the company for operations, leading to the upcoming soft launch.
The press release further states, “theScore’s sports media app for iOS and Android is one of the most popular sports apps in North America, with an audience of approximately four million monthly active users that span every U.S. state. theScore’s mobile sports betting applications will leverage proprietary sports betting platform technology by U.S. based i-gaming and sportsbook provider Bet.Works.”
