Jan-Eric Schwippert has picked up $1.4m after chopping the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller with Tom Marchese at the Bellagio, and the German, Stefan Schillhabel, wins the €10,300 High Roller at the European Poker Tour in Prague.

Jan-Eric Schwippert has taken down the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller at The Bellagio after chopping with Aria High Roller reg, Tom Marchese.

Jan-Eric Schwippert Wins Bellagio Super High Roller; Stefan Schillhabel Wins €10k EPT Prague High RollerThe Austrian entered the heads-up phase with a 5:1 chip advantage, and had Marchese below the ten big blind point before the Global Poker League (GPL) New York Rounders star doubled up – a play that resulted in the eventual chop.

The first prize was $1,439,274. Back in the day when the only accessories allowed at the table were cigarettes, it would have been the biggest prize of the year. Today, it’s not big enough to crack the Top 25. For his part, Marchese earned $1,018,566. Schwippert is having a good month, finishing sixth and third in $25,000 buy-in Aria High Rollers, this month

Erik Seidel was once again in the thick of the action. The New Yorker recently surpassed the $30m in cashes mark, and his $335,160 fourth place finish puts his all-time live tournament earnings to $30,963,854, meaning he only needs to win another $1.6m to catch up with Daniel Negreanu.

I realise the absurdity of using the word ‘only’ in that sentence, but given Seidel’s form in these Aria High Rollers and Negreanu’s lack of appearances in them, I think he has every chance of becoming the top dog by the end of 2017.

Ankush Mandavia was another man feeling the heat. Mandavia finished sixth a few days after winning a $25,000 Aria High Roller for $403,532. UK Hedge Fund manager, Talal Shakerchi, was third and Christian Christner was fifth.

European Poker Tour Prague Update

Across the pond, the final European Poker Tour (EPT) festival is underway in Prague, and judging by the attendance figures, people are going to miss John Duthie’s baby.

It’s his second big win of the year after winning the World Poker Tour (WPT) Shooting Stars event for $1.3m in March. Sergio Aido, and Charlie Carrel continued their recent run of deep runs with second and third place finishes respectively.
